On Saturday the 15th June we staged our 2nd annual Krav Maga Summer Seminar. The event took place at T3 in La Caleta which has become the Go To place for winter training for professional teams in all different sports. A large marquee was used for the event and it was a typical warm and sunny Tenerife day.
Multi Style Seminar
This year we were determined to create a Training Event that was bigger and better than the previous year. We therefore invited 10 International Martial Arts Instructors from various styles & disciplines. Asking them to participate in the first authentic Multi Style self defence seminar ever in the Canary Islands.
Martial Arts & Self Defence Systems
150 students flew in from all over Europe to take part in this high intensity training course starting at 10am and finishing at 18:30. The Instructors consisted of the very best in Krav Maga / Kapap / Brazilian Jiu Jitsu / Muay Thai / MMA / Shoot Fighting & Kyokushin. All the Instructors had adapted their techniques to deal specifically with street attacks rather than competition.
All the techniques were done on a real full contact basis so that the students could truly feel how powerful and effective each one is. This is especially important considering many of the students were Police, Military or Security. These people have to apply these concepts in a real life scenario whether it be a standard street attack or an extremely violent terrorist attack.
We began the seminar with Krav Maga based attacks form Martin Luna and myself covering strangles and grabs. Our concept in these situations is to do the maximum damage in the minimum time with the minimum risk. There are no rules in a violent attack and your best chance of survival is to be more violent than the attacker. The primary targets being the groin, eyes or throat areas.
The seminar was completed by a display of capoeira from a local team of Brazilians. This was a spectacular show of agility, balance, speed & skill and was an excellent end to a high impact and hard training session.
